Adinkra printing day

Dr. Richmond Teye Ackam, art professor at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana, visited Tennessee Tech and gave a series of lectures on art in Africa and Ghanaian art traditions. In conjunction with his lectures, he visited our Fibers department and gave a demonstration on Adinkra printing. He used Adinkra duro medium and calabash block stamps on fabric and allowed students and visitors to the Craft Center to try printing. The stamps of Adinkra printing are all symbols and he provided a chart in order for each person to choose a symbol with an interesting meaning. It brought many people into the dept for a fun afternoon to experiment with a different medium.IMG_0948
